How we work
plants for people
Bare Hands (under Bare Hands Bear Fruit Inc.) is a nonprofit agricultural and social development organization. We are developing edible neighborhoods for the city of Atlanta, Georgia. Since 2013, Bare Hands has planted 25,000 fruit trees and educated hundreds of families on sustainable farming practices in North, Central, and South American communities. Our mission is to encourage and educate communities to switch to more nutritious and sustainable crops. We believe that change happens from the roots up. That’s why we are working to gather communities to take back their food autonomy.
According to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), there almost a billion people undernourished today. We produce 17 percent more calories per person today than we did 30 years ago, and far more than enough for everyone on the planet to have plenty to eat. So, we need to fix quality, not quantity. Plants are universal. We need change food culture for the betterment of us all.
